Second Seminar

The second seminar gave me the opportunity to discuss my project further with my colleagues to better develop my ideas and solve any issues I may have. I filled out a form answering questions about my project and its development. I also graded myself against the criteria to see where I could improve.

One of my realisations is that research wise I could improve. I had already done a lot of research but I felt like just a bit more could have been useful for me and my project conceptually. Research might bring more images and ideas into my project in areas where I struggle.

Another aspect I discussed was colour schemes and the use of Lino in my project. I often got the question when discussion my project about why I chose Lino. Often memory is depicted with blurred lines and a haziness that resembles a fragmented or faded thought. Lino cutting however is very clean and fixed. I reflected on this choice, I saw the idea of nostalgia as a place that someone escapes to, in this case it would be solid and clean in contrast to whatever messy or rough situation they were escaping from. The lino gave me a clear way to incorporate line and image interpretation and I also explored many aspects of Lino that could help portray memory.

A discussion took place over memory and colour and how memory and it's associated colour varies from every individual. Each person in the discussion expressed a different colour for memory with various reasoning such as blue because they view memories and remembering as solemn experience or yellow because of mediums such as old film being how they thought of memory itself. Many other colours were give such as red, green, and even pink. My colour scheme has always had purpose within the lore of nostalgia that I have created. The Blue/Red colour scheme represents pain and happiness respectively.
